Hi, I just liked to share with you that as a early adopter/supporter I have just received HDK from Razer :)

Everything is very well packed, each part has its place. Only power brick is packed in additional box.

Camera has its own tripod.

There is also interface box.

An a lot of cables :)

And a main dish!

What I can tell from the first seconds, everything is very well designed and looks very durable. And for sure optics used is high end, much more better than in DK2... It is worth waiting for sure :)

Now I just have to find out how to implement it in our games... it shouldn't be that hard ...? ;)


arghhh I almost forgot to mention about that little thing which is also in the box :) :

^Can you describe the video inputs that come with it? I can't tell much looking at all of the cables. I think I see a a male-HDMI.

Yep it is male HDMI. You will also need one free usb slot.

After some test I did yesterday iI have found that lenses are far more superior than in DK2- abberation is not noticable and you have bigger sweet spot.

But place for nose could be a little bigger ☺

Is there any games or demos that you can play around with right out of the box? How complicated is setting it up? Any driver issues? Thanks.

All OSVR software is available on github, but I didn't found any demos or working project yet...

Screen is installed as additional monitor. There is no any manual in the box(but please note that it is a dev version), but setup is quite easy. Only connecting power supply is a little tricky as it is goes both to interface box and camera by special splitter cable.

I have tested HMD using DK2 demos started in extended mode and moved to OSVR monitor. From first look you can see the difference in optics as Oculus demos have the opposite aberration implemented to counterweight their optics aberration, but on OSVR it is not needed. The door effect seems also less noticeable. Colors are nice as usual on oled display (black is black).

There is a very good mechanical separation of outside light, nothing is visible around nose area or any other place.

I will try to run it under the unreal environment today and we will see what we can squeeze from it.

Thanks for all that extra info. Since you mentioned that it connects as an extended monitor, does that mean that currently there is no direct mode for osvr? Or it it just the limitation of the demos not using that mode.

It is working like this: OSVR is working as additional screen in windows until you run application for it. In the background you need to have core server running which will then "communicate" and use OSVR or any additional peripherals you have. Technology is different than for Oculus and it is hard to compare.

Thanks I have checked this demo, but I think it is for previous version of OSVR. FOV is far too big and it is very sim sickness heavy :)

I have also started to use it in Unreal, it is looking quite good but there are some things to adjust and correct, especially the stereoscopic settings - length between eyes should be bigger, also I see some scale problems... nothing big but needs to be tweaked.

looks great.
may I know if you are from academia?

previously my lab applied through University and was promised 1 unit from OSVR.
But until now there is no updates at all.
And my university was not listed in the latest posts which OSVR announced they have add 13 new universities, making it 49 now.

I wonder though if you only have one port, is there a pass through system of some kind? I've heard about/seen images of what's on the headset being cloned (displayed) on another monitor. It seems like this kind of setup is essential, and practical since cyclops displays and stereo displays are not exactly compatible, and you obviously cannot use them both at the same time!
